Choosing Emerald Lawns was a HUGE mistake and has completely destroyed our yard. We purchased our first home recently and decided to invest in Emerald’s [overpriced] lawn service. Before their service, our grass and plants looked healthy. After being stuck in a contract for the last year, our yard now looks laughably bad. Every time they come to do a “treatment”, they’re here for all of 2 minutes. We have a camera and can visibly see when they arrive/leave and there is absolutely no way they are thoroughly treating the front and back yard in such a short span of time. When they provide us notes on why our yard looks awful they claim its due to “pet damage”. Yes, we have two dogs but they’re indoors except to use the restroom (which we pick up immediately) and they’re NEVER in the front yard (which is equally as damaged?). Our neighbors next door also have two dogs and their yard looks immaculate and bright green after being serviced by TruGreen for few months, so it sounds like a made up excuse by Emerald. The most frustrating aspect of this entire service is how much work my husband has put into trying to maintain our yard every weekend just to have these treatments kill any new growth we see. When we informed them we did not want to renew, they didn’t even attempt to retain our business. I honestly have a hard time understanding this company’s high rating and highly advise looking into other companies. Such a waste of a lot of money.
Do not hire Emerald Lawns.
We hired Emerald Lawns to install Christmas lights. The service was originally scheduled on 10/5, with an agreed completion date of 11/12. Instead, they showed up seven separate times, each visit ending with a new excuse for why they could not complete the install. Either they did not have a tall enough ladder or they did not bring the lights with them.
When I called customer service, I was repeatedly told that the technicians “always bring lights,” which directly contradicted what the technicians themselves were telling me on site.
Out of all those attempts, I received only one confirmation that a technician was on the way, and it was not even on a day they had previously scheduled. The lights were finally installed on 11/26, two full weeks past the agreed deadline.
The very next day, I noticed that some of the lights were not working at all and the entire right side of the house had fallen down. I contacted them again for a repair, and it took almost two more weeks for anyone to come out.
Now it’s 1/16, and they still have not returned to take the lights down.
Missed deadlines, repeated excuses, no communication, poor installation, and unresolved follow-through. Absolutely do not recommend.
When the guys that come out to treat actually pay attention to the notes on my account and apply the right treatment, I’m a happy lady. But since last year, my yard has been struggling in several areas and it always happens when they do the liquid weed/ fertilizer treatment (takes weeks to recover). My yard gets like this in the front and back when they don’t use granular. Hope it doesn’t continue as I would hate to have to switch companies or do it myself. Really enjoy the convenience of not having to do it myself.

I’ve been with Emerald for 8 years, but my experience over the last two years has gone sharply downhill since the company was sold.
At the end of December, I received two different prepay quotes for the upcoming year, both reflecting nearly a 20% increase. I was previously told their increase was only 6%, so I did not agree to renew services or authorize any charges. I simply asked for clarification regarding the discrepancy in my quotes.
I called five times over the past week for clarification. My calls rang indefinitely with no answer. Last Friday, the only way I could reach anyone was through the new customer line and was told they were having phone issues, and was told my message would be passed along. No one followed up.
Despite this, Emerald charged my credit card $700 today without my consent. All prior balances were paid in full. I did speak with someone this evening after the charge, who said they would “look into it,” but as of now there has been no reversal.
Charging a customer without authorization, providing different quotes without clarification and being unreachable beforehand is unacceptable. This experience has completely eroded my trust in the company.
Emerald Lawns has consistently done a good job for me using the full annual service applications. Rarely have more than a few weeds even when it is time for another application. And they will come back out if any weeds pop up between applications. Nice to have a healthy and attractive lawn.
