I am writing this review on behalf of my mother, who is 92, and who hired Sonic Leak Detection to come to the house and address a leak.
Sonic Leak Detection came to the house on two consecutive days. The first day was to detect a leak outside the house, and the second day they returned to repair the leak. The time required to find the leak on the first day was approximately 2 to 3 hours, and the charges were just over $400. They said they could repair the leak, and the cost would be an additional $3,600. They were hired to do the repair, assuming that it would be a major project to justify the $3600 cost. When they returned the next day, (there were two of them) they arrived at about 11:15 a.m. and were done by about 3 p.m.. Within this time, they left for lunch and bought an outdoor hydrant. (They charged $350 for a simple hydrant, for which they claimed to have no receipt.) They charged $3100 for labor, which was almost all done by one of them, while the other mostly talked. The actual labor outside the house was probably 2 to 2 1/2 hours, mostly done by the one person. So, something around $1,250 an hour.
Finally, the job was not finished correctly. The attachments to the hydrant were made such that they were facing the wrong direction and would make the controls very difficult to read.
The total charges for both the detection and the repairs were about $3,750. The neighbor next-door later said she had the exact same job done for about $1200.
They claimed that their charges were so high because they are specialists.
My mother paid their bills, mostly because she was intimidated by them, but felt that they were taking advantage because of her age and the fact that she lives in a relatively affluent part of Santa Fe. Sounds about right.
So, I would say hire them only if you are willing to have people work for you who operate in this way.
Obviously, we would leave zero stars if we could.
Unfortunately, we will be pursuing this matter in small claims court.
Brandon and Willie from Sonic Leak Dection showed up on time and were professional and friendly. They saved me a lot of money compared to the other plumbing companies and did great work. They didn’t answer the phone the first two calls but I left a message and they got back to me.
I paid the Sonic Leak Detection about $500 to detect where is the water leaking. Their tech marked a 2ftx2ft square in my living room. However, the contractor dug 3ft in depth, still didn’t find the leaking and could not even find the hot water line. I called Sonic several times and left several messages. emailed two times to request warranty service, but no one responded to me. It looks like this company just wants your money without providing their promised service. If you don’t want to waste your time and money, please run away from them. I wish i can give them -1 star!
We were in a horrible situation of unknown under slab water leak loosing about 1400 gallons of water a day. Our appointment was rescheduled twice but when they did locate a leak under our slab. We were told they could only identify one leak and we would have to pay them to come out again to locate any others. However, the real problem was about 8-12ft away from the one they identified. Our plumber repaired the Sonic identified spot and when they turned the water back on, our plumber found an even larger leak flowing from an area I had asked Sonic to look in to.
Greatful for their assistance in identifying a leak just wish given the high travel cost involved with utilizing them they would have been more accurate.
They were very quick to call back when we needed our main water line replaced. They replaced it at a reasonable price and a timely manner, however, since replacing our water line they have not returned any of our phone calls for 2 months now. We have been trying to contact them to fill out an insurance form so we can be reimbursed by our homeowners, and they will not call us back. They offer a 5 year warranty, but it makes me wonder if they’d actually call us back if something were to actually happen.
