I contracted to have part of my driveway replaced, install a new RV pad, and a pad poured for a shed that would be installed in my backyard. This was the lowest bid I received of the three.
Things that I should have had included in the written contract:
1. There would be communication between the company and the homeowner via email and text (I sent emails and texts with no response). Responses to emails will be received within 48 hours.
2. Work would be SCHEDULED, workers would not just show up to work on random days. (Initial work was scheduled for June 2&3, cement was poured on 6/4)
3. Plastic would be put on house to reduce overspray, and any overspray of concrete will be removed by company.
4. Drains will be BURIED after trenching with no portion of the horizontal drain being visible.
5. Workers will not “hop the fence” and open gates to work in the backyard without homeowners knowledge, without being scheduled (they trespassed in my backyard and did work not requested, then nailed my gate closed)
6. Do the work ON the contract, no add work (The company put down weed block and rocks around the shed and over the unburied drain in order to not bury the drain pipe,. I DID NOT request rock around the shed. I only wanted weed block and rock on either side of the RV pad).
7. The 8X10 pad for the shed was level, but was to square. When the shed was installed this resulted in a gap in the shed bottom to the cement, allowing for rodents and bugs entry to under the shed.
8. NO work will take place unless scheduled with homeowner (I emailed with out of town dates and a list of things to be completed, requesting a scheduled time. Workers came while I was gone and did work not specified in the contract and nailed my gate shut).
9. As per our discussion during the estimate, the gate will be adjusted to the height of the cement, knowing that there are small dogs in the house, so bottom needs to be close to the cement. Israel said “he’d take care of me”…. They cut the bottom of the pickets of the gate at an angle with about 8” of space between concrete and gate at the center. Israel said it was because my property was not level. Wendy said they could replace the pickets, Israel said I would need to pay the company to fix/rebuild the gate. Eventually he agreed to a $500.00 credit for me to repair the gate (Tholl fence quote sent to Israel was $3800.00 to rebuild the gate).
10. Do a complete clean up of materials. (Refused to remove the overspray of the cement from the house. Did not finish the cleanup of the job).
11. Only do the work specified in the contract. (Removed the pebbled 2′ of concrete on the side of the portion of the concrete they were contracted to remove in my driveway. This was decorative and balanced the driveway).
Got the job done for cheap but their communication is horrid.
I put in an inquiry and Israel came right out and gave a low quote. After that, total silence. I reached out to them 2-3 times over 2 weeks before I ever heard back again, and they sent the quote/contract to sign. After returning that I asked when we can schedule, heard nothing back and one day a week later they just showed up at my house without any warning when we weren’t home. Wendy texted me asking to let them in and that was the first I knew they were coming. I then tried to schedule a time for them to come back and again got ghosted for a week until I persistently kept messaging times I was available and finally something worked. They did the job and said they’d be back on Friday to get their form and finish, Friday I sat at home waiting for them, and no one ever came. After texting Wendy 3 more times finally got it scheduled for them to come back, I told her specifically when I needed to leave for work, but had plenty of time with the 2 hour window they gave me. Sure enough they came late, as I was leaving for work, but they cleaned up their work and finally I’m done having to deal with them!
Cost was super low, so I guess that level of communication and customer service is what you get for that price, but sheesh!
I was referred over to heavy duty concrete by my brother and these guys are the best in industry hands down. Quality meterials the job is done in a timely fashion highly recommend
Heavy Duty recently completed a remodel at our home and it was spectacular! Sean and Denise are outstanding to work with and are excellent communicators for the project. All told, this project took around a week to replace our driveway, front yard with artificial turf, pavers for both the driveway and front walk way along with the front “trash pad” as well. The team also installed a concrete set for our front sitting swing set-up that came out great. The project helped replace a front yard that was around 30 years old and they did it in record time. Thank you to Sean, Denise and the team!
Heavy Duty Concrete & Pavers replaced our deteriorating 30-year-old walkway and driveway with pavers – 2800 sf in total, in March 2024. They also replaced the driveway apron and gutter that were also in bad shape. Sean visited our home and provided a detailed quote with different options (part concrete and part pavers, all pavers, all concrete) within two days of our contacting them. Denise in the office was very helpful when we asked for some minor changes and produced a final quote that day (the cost was competitive with other quotes received). Our job was scheduled for ten days later. Isaac came to our home the first day and explained the process. Work commenced with four to eight workers every day and seven workdays later the project was complete except where concrete had to be poured for the apron and gutter (this had to be inspected by the County). Two days after the concrete was poured a crew came and finished the pavers around the apron. The entire job was completed in eight workdays spread over two weeks. I should mention that they also installed a drainpipe under the driveway with an emitter at the bottom of the driveway to solve a long-standing drainage problem at the front of our home. Communication with everyone was excellent and the work was scheduled and completed in a timely manner. Our new walkway and driveway are beautiful – the workmanship is outstanding. We recommend Heavy Duty Concrete & Pavers and will use them again if we decide to upgrade our backyard.
