After the reformatting of the vegetable industry as a result of the war and occupation of the southern part of the country, the supply chains of vegetables, both in closed and open ground, have become shorter. This observation was shared by Taras Bashtannik, the head of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association, as reported by agronews.ua.

“Thus, there is no longer a situation where all early vegetables are grown in one region (Kakhovka) and then transported throughout the country,” he explained. “Because each regional center requires high-quality early or off-season produce. I would like to point out that 9 out of 10 vegetable growers work for the domestic market, not for export.”
He also considers the prospects of growing vegetables in tunnels to be positive, especially in light of the losses in the southern regions.
“Early vegetable production, in particular, is a great direction to extend the season, diversify production in Ukraine, and replace the lost volumes,” the expert wrote.
