   Hillman Outdoors Living exceeded our expectations in designing and constructing our outdoor kitchen. From the initial consultation to the final walkthrough, each phase felt seamless. Our project included a roof extension, a custom-built kitchen with top-notch appliances, a robust concrete design for stability, a rebuilt retaining wall with effective drainage, and an integrated surround sound system. Impressively, they identified issues from previous builders that could have led to foundation damage, sparing us from potential disaster—a major blessing!

   Trust and transparency are paramount when designing your home, and Hillman Outdoor Living embodies these values.

   The surround sound system is an absolute game-changer! We opted for three zones in our backyard, and we couldn’t be happier. The audio is crystal clear, allowing for easy conversations, while keeping the volume comfortable for our neighbors.

   If given the chance to do it all over again, I would choose Hillman without hesitation for all our future projects. Their work deserves five stars, as do their employees and the overall business!

   We are delighted to highly recommend Hillman Outdoor Living to anyone who is considering adding an outdoor living space to their home. My spouse and I recently had the pleasure of working with Hillman Outdoor Living. We added a deck, and covered outdoor “living room”, kitchen (minus water/sink), and landscaping. In the covered area, we have a grill, 2 gas stove burners, a refrigerator, breakfast bar, and seating area centered around a natural gas fire table. From start to completion, they demonstrated remarkable expertise and professionalism, setting Hillman apart as leaders in DFW in creating stunning, comfortable, durable outdoor living spaces.

   The team at Hillman is quite knowledgeable about all aspects of building an outdoor living area. They take time to listen to your vision and offer invaluable insights to enhance the design and/or promote maximum functionality for your needs. Their craftsmanship is second to none—each detail is meticulously executed toward a high-quality outcome that meets and exceeds expectations.

   One of the highlights of our experience was the outstanding project management. The team consistently communicated with us throughout the process, ensuring plans met our timeline. José is the most outstanding manager with whom we’ve had the pleasure of working (and we are not strangers to world of contractors and home improvements). He is outstanding at leading crews, providing excellent communication among all entities, and meeting timelines. The expert crews working with Hillman displayed superb skills, executing the work with precision, professionalism and care. We were delighted with every crew who work on our project.

   Hillman Outdoor Living truly pays attention to every detail, transforming our backyard into a beautiful and functional living space. We feel as though we have added two additional rooms to our house via the new outdoor space. We spend so much time living outside in comfort.    We moved into our (almost) dream house in 2020. Everything about it was perfect, other than the fact that it was missing the number one thing that we said would be non negotiable when choosing a house, which was an awesome backyard set up with a pool and outdoor kitchen where we could hang out and entertain our friends and family.
   We knew it would be a BIG job and we wanted to make sure that we picked the right people to help make our dream house complete. We spoke with several different companies, and ultimately chose to work with Mike Hillman at Hillman Outdoor Living. We definitely made the right choice!! What we liked most is that from day one, he was straightforward, transparent, true to his word, attentive, knowledgeable, and he had a talent for creative design. During the building process, it was obvious that Mike and his crew took pride in their work and were committed to delivering on the finished product! I can honestly say that we spend more time on our back patio than anywhere else in our home and we wouldn’t change a single thing about it. It is everything we envisioned and more! The specific things that we wanted were; a grotto, a large space to entertain under a covered patio, space for my husband’s treager, and a deep pool. It wasn’t an easy task, but any time we were thrown a curveball (hail storm in 2021, pre-existing foundation issues that had to be addressed mid-build, pandemic-related product shortages etc), Mike and his team managed it all with good grace and dedication to our project.
   I have in the past, and would presently recommend using Hillman Outdoor Living for any outdoor projects that you’re considering.

   I wrote a series of quick review blogs. Here are some aspects.

   1. As I sit here and look outside the living room window Hillman’s stone/masonry crew is doing an outstanding job building the outdoor kitchen area. Really fanatical attention to detail amid the chaos of laughter and conversations that tell me they not only take pride in their creations, they enjoy them. The kitchen they built completely exceeded my expectations.

   The 30′ by 12′ covered kitchen included framers that put up the shell in two days – and final only took a few additional days at the end.

   The foundation folks made some minor changes on the fly that were not specified in the plans, but I asked for, thus they were very easy to work with.

   The electrical and plumbing went off without a hitch, except that where I live the building requirements and inspections are bit of a chore so predictions on progress must be diluted by these delays that Hillman and their contractors have little control over.

   I initially thought Hillman was a bit pricier than the other bids I received, but I also got the impression that they would get the job done with less hassle. On the basics they were absolutely competitive. They prefer to install top end equipment (note the BigAss fans as an example) but the additional cost vs. the overall project cost meant I was silly to quibble and I ultimately got a high quality product. I received very good value for my money.

   We have a wonderfully functional outdoor kitchen and a great place to hang out, outside, all four seasons. Pandemic supply chain has been the problem in this build so patience is required. They just finished all but one thing today (part still missing) but if I had to do it all over again I wouldn’t hesitate to hire them again. I highly recommend Hillman Outdoor Living.

   I can’t say enough positive things about the work this company did. For one, building anything customized often leaves the builders in the dark, or at the mercy of people like me who sometimes just don’t know how to articulate what we want. There are so many ways for mistakes to happen, or for dissatisfaction to occur. To account for these potential errors, they kept an open dialogue at all times, so that if there were ever any problems, the solution was just around the corner. They went above and beyond in making us feel comfortable about the investment, and making sure the work was done first. It was everything we asked for and then some.
