Wondering what a landscape architect’s garden actually looks like? Well, Pollyanna Wilkinson’s features a rather handsome Alitex greenhouse, which was recently unveiled at Chelsea Flower Show. We asked her to open the doors and tell us all about it.

Hi Pollyanna! Which flowers are you growing right now?

Right now in the greenhouse I’, growing a ridiculous number of Pelargoniums; I have a load of unusual varieties from Fibrex nurseries and the greenhouse smells amazing! I’m also nursing some snapdragons and cosmos which I really do need to get into the cutting garden as soon as I have a spare five minutes.

What about vegetables?

I have tomatoes in the ground bed including Costoluto Fiorentino, Roma and Sungold.

What’s your favourite part of the greenhouse?

My favourite feature is a real must-have: the water reservoir and pump. I use it daily to water my seedlings and plants; the rainwater is so good for the plants compared to my very hard London tap water!

I also love my potting shoe, which is essentially my workstation and happy place – it’s best with a podcast on and a glass of rosé (or a cup of coffee, depending on the time of day).

Can you give us your best gardening tips?

If you feel overwhelmed, just do one small task rather than making a long list that can take the joy out of it. Usually you’ll end up doing more than you hoped when you’re in a groove with the secateurs or potting bench.

Another essential tip is not to overcommit on seedlings – you don’t need to sow every seed in the packet!
