Tiny but pretty nice pool! The lanes are more narrow than usual. Open showers (which are great to minimize waste and promote body positivity) have excellent water pressure, and there’s a spinner to dry your swimsuit, as well as hair driers at 3 different heights. The main opportunities for improvement (other than having more and bigger lanes) would be too add a couple of full-body mirrors and some soap dispensers in the showers.
An excellent facility. My sole interest is lap swimming, and the 77-degree “cool” pool is invigorating. I’m only in San Francisco one month a year, so I really enjoy this feature. The health clubs available to me in Arizona keep the water around 84, which feels like an upper limit to me. The disadvantages (to my sole focus on lap swimming) in this public pool are the many uses and clientele it must serve and the restricted hours it is open. But it seems well run and organized, and staff are friendly and helpful. The mens locker room shows its age but is clean.
This is truly the best pool I’ve ever experienced, thanks to the incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff and the comfortably warm pool itself. However, the women’s showers have been consistently ice-cold on and off for the past two years, making it impossible to even take a quick rinse before heading out. Instead, you have to go home to shower. Although technicians have been called several times, there’s still sadly no resolution 🙁
The North Beach Pool has an interesting set up. There are actually 2 separate pools in this facility- one “cold” pool, ranging between 77-78° F, and one “warm” pool, ranging between 86-88° F. The differing temperatures in the two distinct pools strike me as odd. The temperatures aren’t as extreme as you might find in a day spa- contrasting a hot tub session with a cold plunge. It was a small facility, and I would anticipate that 4 lanes total, 2 for serious lap swimmers, would get crowded at times. However, when I visited, there were max 3 people in the cold pool, which was manageable.
If you’re Driver here Is perfect!! Clean restroom free n most important paper water n soap!!!
